Reverse
PR Golden Rules
The Golden Rules are not onerous but it is important everyone knows
what they are, so we can all play by them. Reverse PR works
on common trust and
support. Let’s keep it that way.
- Reverse PR is a
free service - there is no charge. However, if you feel you are
receiving a greater benefit from Reverse PR and
would like to give me a donation for this
service then go for it. I will donate 20 per cent of every donation
received to the Australian Red Cross. Click here
to make a donation.
- I send
Reverse PR
subscribers up to three (3) emails each day, around breakfast, lunch
and late afternoon, Monday to Friday,
containing unique queries from journalists which come direct to me.
Have a quick
look at the content of each email and if something immediately jumps
out at you then it's likely the right topic for you. Don't
respond to a query if it's not right for you. You'll just be
wasting your time and the journalist's. Respond directly to the
journalist with your 'pitch' by the method they say in the query; that
is, email does not mean phone nor the other way around. Don't
forget to look at the type of media you’re responding to; TV and radio
have different demands to print. Most importantly, remember to
address the criteria of the query. A simple email with a phone
number and a message saying 'call me' and nothing else will be a wasted
effort. And remember deadlines; 4:00pm
does not mean 4:05pm. The
earlier the better.
- DO NOT SPAM journalists! Period!
This is Reverse PR.
I bring the media to you based on their needs, not the other way
around. Equally I have asked journalists NOT TO SPAM sources I
introduce to them. Such actions are against the spirit of Reverse PR.
- DO NOT post any content from the
emails I send you on any blog or web or intranet site, and don't
regularly share the email Isend you with a list of your friends or
colleagues. Instead, encourage your friends and colleagues to
subscribe to Reverse
PR. If you see a particular query in an email that may be
relevant to a friend or colleague, by all means forward it to them, but
please don't
make a habit of it.
- If you
resond to a query be patient. Please recognise journalists are
busy people too. You may not be the only source responding to
their query on Reverse
PR. The journalist will contact you as soon as possible,
if you are a source they need. Don't be offended if you don't
hear back from them. It's not bad manners, it's the nature of the
work they do.
- DO NOT harvest journalist email
addresses I provide to you in the daily Reverse PR
emails for any reason whatever. If you do I will find
out. I have spies everywhere!
- If you
would like to write about Reverse PR and
what I do, go for it! Just be mindful of rule 4 above. If
you would like to interview me for your blog or media outlet I'm happy
to do that too. Contact
me by email and let me know your deadline.
- Encourage
your friends and colleagues to subscribe to Reverse PR, so
they too may benefit from the opportunities I present to subscribers.
In
and ideal world I would love it if you could introduce Reverse PR to at
least four new people every week. Nonetheless I trust you will do your
best. If you happen to see see a query in an email that may be relevant
to a friend or colleague, by all means forward it to them, but please
don't make a
habit of it. See rule 4 above.
- Remember
givers gain! The more you give the more you'll gain.
Blatant
breaches of the Golden Rules
may result in offenders banned from the list. Reverse
PR is a free service that works on common trust and
support. Let’s keep it that way.
